The pictures above were taken Labor Day weekend. I was going to post them right away but then the wild fires started and after that the lake issue seemed trivial. Now that the fires are over I am back to posting about Lake Conroe. Lake Conroe is a back up water supply for Houston and with the severe drought we have been in they have had to start taking water out of Lake Conroe. It is so sad to see the lake being depleted but at the same time I understand why it has to be done.

If you have followed my blog you know that we are in two active sail boat clubs on the lake. We were out at the lake Labor day weekend and it looked like a ghost lake. Typically you would see several sailboats and a lot of motorboats out on the water. We saw maybe three motorboats, a couple of jet skis and NO sailboats on the lake.

We have a Catalina 22 which is a relatively small sailboat. We have the retractable keel and keep it at Conroe Yacht Club on dry ground. Our friends with the larger boats have had to find creative ways to get their boats off the water.

I expect it is going to be several years before the lake is back to normal. We will miss our sailboat races but in the grand scheme of things people having water to live with is more important.

Please pray for rain in Texas. It is going to take a lot of rain to get us back to normal levels.

This picture was taken a few weeks ago at one of Lake Conroe Sailing Association's Thursday night races.  My husband crews and I help on the committee boat.  We never know what the weather is going to be like and it can change in the flick of an eye.  We ended the race early because of those weird clouds you see (I did not photo-shop this picture).  As it turned out this time the clouds turned to nothing but you do have to be careful when you are on the water.

One of the many things we love about Spring is the accessiblity to Lake Conroe.  You don't have to live on the lake to sail on the lake.

One of the many things that I love about living in Spring TX is the easy access to Lake Conroe. We are members of Lake Conroe Sailing Association and these pictures are from their recent Spinnaker Run. It was a busy day at the lake.  If you look to the very top you will see a row of helicopters (they almost look like bugs in the sky). Below that was a plane that was taking pictures of the sailboats flying their spinnakers.  Then of course below that are the sail boats with their spinnakers.

It was a windy day at the lake the day of the Spinnaker Run so the spinnakers were only up for a short time.

You don't have to own a sailboat to join. Every Thursday evening (weather permitting) we have a sailboat race starting at the lighthouse. Come join us (like I said you don't have to own a sailboat); someone is always looking for crew.

We are members of Lake Conroe Sailing Association LCSA and our club just started our Thursday night sail boat races.  These are just for fun so you don't have to have a lot of sailing skill to get involved.  This was the family in sail #5841's first time to race with us; you can tell by the picture they are having fun. Wind permitting the race happens every Thursday evening with a start time of 6:15. The start line is always over by the lighthouse at Seven Coves.

Next Saturday we are having a Spinnaker Run in the morning and a Luau in the evening.  If you would like more information please visit the Lake Conroe Sailing Association web site. 

One of the things that I love about living in Spring is our access to Lake Conroe.  We live in Spring but still find it easy to participate as the lake is only a 35 to 45 minute drive.
