The Woodlands Ace Hardware is located at the corner of Kuykendahl and Woodlands Parkway.  They have quickly become my favorite hardware store.   This is the second time that I have written a post about The Woodlands Ace Hardware.  You will find the first one at Ace Hardware in The Woodlands TX!!

We love our Woodlands  Ace Hardware and they also love us.  This last Saturday The Woodlands Ace Hardware had customer appreciation day.  I had went in on Friday to buy a package of Tortilla soup (you heard me right Tortilla soup) and the friendly gal behind the counter let me know that the next day was customer appreciation day and Randy Lemmon from Garden Line would be there for a book signing and to answer our questions.  She also told me a clown would be there for the children and the boy scouts would be cooking hot dogs.

I am a big fan of Randy Lemmon so I decided if I could go that I would.  We already have an autographed copy of Randy Lemmon's book so I just went for the fun of it.  If you have not listened to Garden Line you should check it out on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  He is on AM 740 and is on until 10:00 AM. That is a time I am often out showing houses and I have learned so much listening to his program.  I FINALLY decided to take his advice and do raised garden beds.  We have finished two beds with three more in the planning stages.  We used his recommendations from Gulf Coast gardening and the plants in the raised bed are twice the size of the same plants that are not in a raised beds.  I was surprised to see him at my local The Woodlands Ace Hardware but found that very cool as I love that store.   There was a line circling to the back of the store.  It appeared he had sold out all the copies of his book but everyone was in line with their problem plants in hand.

The Woodlands Ace Hardware has something for everyone so in not leaving the children out; they also had a clown with her monkey friend Abby.  I was TOTALLY enamored with Abby.  I have never paid much attention to monkeys but according to her owner someone forgot to tell Abby that she was a monkey.  Monkeys tend to have a reputation for being a little on the mean side but Abby is a jewel.  Her owner the clown was blowing up balloons and entertaining everyone with Abby all at the same time.  Abby's owner said she had 4 monkeys but the other three lived up to that mean reputation.  We lost our sweet chocolate Labrador named Abby this last January and Abby the monkey lived up to Abby's sweet loveable personality.  To see more pictures of sweet Abby please visit Speechless Sunday - Monkey See, Monkey Do!

It was a beautiful day and the boy scouts were set up outside with a hot dog stand and sodas.  I love seeing the scouts involved in our community. There was also free popcorn on the inside as The Woodlands Ace Hardware has a pop corn machine for their customers.

I need to make a correction from my first post.  I had said that I thought The Woodlands Ace Hardware was a franchise.  I heard back from the owner and it is a coop.  This means that each store is independently owned.  The Ace Corporation is a privately held corporation which is actually owned by the store owners.  There are 4900 Ace stores and 2800 stockholder.  No matter how many stores you own you only get one vote.  

I have been so pleased with our new The Woodlands Ace Hardware located just 5 minutes from where I live in Spring.  I use to yawn when my husband said he needed to go the hardware store but now 9 times out of 10 I tell him I will go along.  They are doing a great job of providing a wide assortment of items.  My husband can find sprinkler accessories for our sprinkler system while I am shopping for exotic spices and soups.  I just heard recently that most of their items are made in America.  I don't know how true that is I guess I need to check that one out with the owner of The Woodlands Ace Hardware.  That should be easy to do as I often see him in the store with a smile on his face servicing his customers.  I think Ace is the helpful Hardware Store!!

Ace hardware opened in The Woodlands this last fall and I can't tell you how excited we were for them to open.  You are probably wondering why anyone would get excited about a hardware store opening. 

We have lived in the most northern area of Harris County for over 12 years now and for the most part love it. One of the only drawbacks has been not having conveniences.  I have always said that we are 20 minutes from everything but not close to anything.  A trip to the hardware story could easily take an hour or longer round trip.  You can imagine our excitement when we saw an Ace opening up just 5 minutes north of us in The Woodlands.

We are fairly constant patrons but I did not realize it was a franchise until I thought about writing this post and asked if it was okay for me to take pictures.  In doing so I found out the owners Dennie and Christine Rowland live just a little south of us here in Harris County.  Their story could be our story except they took action.  We were forever saying someone needs to open a hardware store up here. Dennie thought the same thing and after one of those treks to the big hardware store he came home in frustration and got on the computer to check out putting in a hardware store.  I'm not sure how long ago he started the process but about 8 months ago they opened up. 

They did a wonderful job with the store; it is like a mini Lowe's or Home Depot.  They carry almost everything you find in a big store; they just don't have as many.  For example my husband put in our sprinkler system several years ago and now maintains it.  He has been able to get parts he needs for maintenance without having to make the long trek to the big stores. 

As you can see from the pictures it is much more than just a hardware store.  I love the fact that I can stop in for a quick gift.  They have some wonderful decorator items.  They also have some wonderful spices.  They have 4 full shelves of spices, soups, jams, jellies, salsas etc. etc.  We love John Henry's Grilling spices and sauces and yes they carry them.  We had to drive 20 minutes to get them prior to Ace Hardware opening.  So this is just one more reason we are glad they opened.

I have stopped in several times to have keys made.  I have made them for my own house and also for listings.  I have heard that they re-key but I don't know that for sure.

They have a paint department selling Benjamin Moore paint and I noticed that they sell small samples.  I don't know about you but I have wasted so much money buying a gallon of paint only to find out that I don't like the color.  These sample paint sizes are WONDERFUL. 

I understand business has been good and I for one am thrilled as I love having the convenience of a hardware store just up the street.

One of the things that I LOVE about living in Spring/The Woodlands is our beautiful foliage.  With Creekside Park opening in Harris County we are now blessed to have a nature preserve 5 minutes from our house.  George Mitchell nature preserve has an access from Rob Fleming Park in Creekside Park.  It is my understanding there is another entrance from Flint Ridge but I am not familiar with it. The cool thing about this nature preserve is that it is open to the public.  That is right you don't have to live in The Woodlands to take advantage of the preserve.  I spoke to a park ranger recently who told me all The Woodlands parks and open spaces are open to the general public.

We have started taking out dog Dundy for walks along the trails and have been pleasantly surprised at how few bugs we have had to deal with.  With Spring Creek running along much of the trail I thought it would be a mosquito magnet but parks and recreation must be keeping it sprayed as it is very comfortable.

It is all natural but there are flag markers so you can tell where the trail goes. You can still see some of the ravages of Hurricane Ike.  It is interesting to see how the forest grows around the damaged trees when they are left in their element.

You can access this wonderful preserve from Rob Fleming Park at Creekside Park.  If you are coming from Gosling turn west on Creekside Forest and stay to the right.  If you are coming from Kukyendahl go east on Creekside Forest and you will see the preserve on your left.  There's a parking area and a sign with the rules of the preserve.  There is a leash law so you are welcome to bring your dog but they need to be on a leash.  I hope you enjoy the preserve as much as we are.

It has been several days since our Woodlands Tax Day Tea Party and I have been amazed at the enthusiasm that is ongoing! We were not sure what to expect and thought if we had 2000 to 3000 people that would be a Very Good response. We were blown away when to our best estimates about 7500 people showed up! Chick-fil-A was providing food and had to bring in food 4 or 5 times from all the Chick-Fil-A's within our area. I have provided some additional photos of our event! We were blessed with wonderful weather which of course helped to contribute to the HUGE turnout.

I titled this sights and sounds.  To hear the sounds please go to this Woodlands Tax Day Video that was produced by two of our local children.  This video is by Dalton 8 and Justin 12 talking about their inheritance.  This is just the beginning our next Tea Party is scheduled for July 4th but it looks like we might need to find a bigger location.

I have become involved with the Woodlands TX tea party and we need your help.  In the next 24 hours we would like to see as many people as possible here in the local area send letters to the editors of our local papers.  We need to let them know that we are tired of their bail outs, their excessive spending and this movement that we are seeing towards socialism.  In this way we can communicate our frustration with our tax and spend government as well as offer our support for The Woodlands Tax Day Tea Party.  If the editors receive enough of these letters they may decide to run our press release about The Woodlands Tea party as a news worthy piece.

There are some guidelines that you need to follow.  Be sure to state your opinion whether it be fear of socialism (you would think we would have figured that one out by Europe's mistakes), high taxation, taking from rich to GIVE to the poor, concern for small businesses, for me this extra tax on that $600 tax rebate stimulus is an issue ect. etc etc.  You get the idea.  We are all perturbed and we need to let our voices be heard.  We do ask that you do not insult Obama.  Now if you want to insult this tax and spend congress and Geithner go for it.  Please somewhere in the letter state that this is why I will be attending The Woodlands TX tea party on April 15th, to get a message to Washington that we are the People and our opinion does matter.  (You want to write the letter as though it is an opinion page letter.  It should not be written as a PR piece for the event that is why we are only asking you to mention The Woodlands Tax Day Tea Party and the date and time.)

 * Letters MUST include name, address and telephone numbers (often for verification purposes, local papers will print letters from residents in the area-The Villager for Woodlands and (maybe some Spring) residents only.  Houston Chronicle will print letters from all over Houston area.) 

I'm going to give you the email addresses for Woodlands Villager and the Houston Chronicle. You can email your opinions straight to them.  Click to the right here for the email address of the Houston Chronicle and click to the right here for the email address of The Woodlands Villager.  You may know of other places.  We can also write to all the local TV stations, voicing our opinions and reminding them about The Woodlands Tax Day Tea Party. If we log in to the stations' web sites we can write letters from there.  IF you would like a more complete list please email me and I will send you an attachment with a more complete list of local newspapers and television stations.

I'm just enjoying a quiet day at the lake!

WOO HOO you look a little lonely over there!

And I have one more thing to tell you!

Meanwhile on the other side of the lake, I have an itch!

Okay I was at this little subdivision lake in The Woodlands at Cochran's Crossing to take pictures for one of my listings and then all these birds distracted me.  The Woodlands has wonderful trails and community lakes and this is just one example.

Please join us on Wednesday April 15^th2009 for a The Woodlands-Spring-North Houston Tax Day T.E.A Party (Taxed Enough Already!).  After you drop off you IRS check at the Post Office stop by Rob Fleming Park in the newest Woodland Village (Creekside Village); located just south of Spring Creek in Harris County.  The tax day tea party is taking place from 5:00 to 9:00 PM but you may come and go at any time during that time period. 

It will be a peaceful gathering to unite our voices and express our love for this great nation we live in and the principles it was founded on. Join your neighbors to let Washington know how you feel about filing your tax return and how the government is using your money!  We want to let our politicians hear loud and clear that we are not happy with the wasteful spending that is going on.  We are not happy with the bailouts and the push towards socialization.  We want less Government not more!!!

Personally I think our forefathers would roll over in their grave if they saw what our government is doing.  Our forefathers fought for our independence so we would not have heavy taxation, we would have free speech and a land for the free and the brave.  If you want to be a part of history and exercise our right to free speech and the peaceful reclamation of our country then please join us April 15th at Rob Fleming Park.

 Planning meetings will take place on April 6^th and April 13^that the Creekside Pavilion.  There are numerous committees and you can plug in to one of them and add your talents.

The tea party is taking place at the Craftsman Style Pavilion in Rob Flemings Park at Creekside Village Park in The Woodlands.  Please note this is taking place at the newest village which is located in Harris County.  Creekside Village is located between Gosling and Kukendahl.  If you are coming from Gosling you will go west on Creekside Forest.  If you are coming from Kuykendahl you will go east on Creekside Forest.  From what is typically considered The Woodlands you will need to go south and cross the bridge either at Kukendahl or Gosling.  If you are going north in Harris Country towards The Woodlands and you get to the bridge you have went too far. 

I have had a number of phone calls about the directions so I am adding a map.  This is not going to be on Google maps as the road is fairly new.

 The bluebonnets at The Woodlands Village of Creeside Park's bluebonnet meadow are in full bloom.  Take your family and your camera to Creekside Park for some spectacular bluebonnets.  Unless we took a road trip I have usually just seen a few bluebonnets here and there but Creekside Park in The Woodlands took care of that for us with their bluebonnet meadow. 

 You will find the bluebonnet meadow at Rob Fleming Park.  Rob Fleming park is a 20 acre park located within The Village of Creekside Park.  The park has a Craftsman style Lodge, tree lined promenade, children's playground, wildlife sculpture trail and a trailhead to the George Mitchell Nature Preserve.

Creekside Park features a mixture of home styles and builders.  The homebuilders include Wilshire Homes, Village Builders, Trendmaker Homes, Plantation Homes, Highland Homes, David Weekly Homes, Darling Homes and Chesmar Homes. .  The homes range in price from $200,000 to $700,000.  The sizes of the homes range from 2200 square feet to almost 5000.  Amenities vary and can include 5 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, game rooms, studies, media rooms, three-car tandem garages and port chochere.

Please note that Creekside Park is in the new section of The Woodlands that is in Northwest Harris County.  It is located just south of Spring Creek between Gosling and Kuykendahl.  The main entrance is located on Gosling Road but you may also get to the village from Kukendahl road also.  When finished the village will cover 3,492 acres and they are planning for 7,100 residences.   Within this 1,850 acres will be used for park-lands and green-space.  As you can see it is becoming a very popular place to go for seeing those bluebonnets.
