We have a fellow rainer who needs our help. Liz Carter with Liz Carter and Team Realty is in desperate need of a double lung and liver transplant. This extensive surgery will require blood at very short notice so her firm is having a blood drive for both Liz and others. Please see the details below for the blood drive being conducted by the mobile unit of St. Luke's Blood Center.

I met Liz when she asked me to moderate the Texas real estate group. We had fun moderating the group together and had some fun contest; all centered around our great state Texas. I have to be honest I have not done a very good job of moderating the group without my cohort to help.
Liz was also at our first ever Active Rain Texas get together. You can see her in the picture with her dog Rhett. She is no longer able to travel as she has to stay within an hour from the hospital at all times.
I spoke to Liz yesterday and she is feeling okay but gets winded very quick. She got tired just in the short conversation that we had. She has no idea when the surgery will take place. It could be tomorrow and it might be a year from now. She told me that if you can't attend the blood drive you can donate at any blood bank and just ask that the blood be banked in her name. You must tell them the blood is for Liz Carter at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the Medical center in Houston TX.
Please keep Liz in your prayers as she goes through this time. We won't have a way of knowing when she gets the surgery as it will happen very quick.

Thanks so much for posting this. Jason told me about Liz's condition recently. I am a regular platelet donor and wonder if I can donate here in Austin and assign credit to her account as you mentioned in your post? I really love Liz and she is one of the first people I met here at Active Rain!
I have not had the priviledge to know Liz but based on how highly you speak of her she must be a wonderful person and Marchel, you are a good friend.
Hi Marchel. I have just prayed for Liz. We appreciate you taking the time to make her needs known for those that will donate. May all of her needs be met. Thank you Marchel.
That poor dear. I hope everything is a huge success and she feels very good very soon. Thank you for letting us know.
Thanks for posting this Marchel. I sure hope you get a great donor turnout and Liz gets all the support she could want!
Marchel, what a great idea to post this. I have never run across Liz before, but if you like her, she must be a good one. She will be in my thoughts and prayers, and I will look for a blood drive locally.
Hi Marchel,
I must have missed info on Liz previously. I'll check with my local blood bank in So Cal tomorrow and Liz will be in my prayers.
Thanks for posting this Marchel. I pray for Liz to get her surgery and get well.
I used to donate blood all the time and was on the bone marrow list for a long time. I'm no longer eligible to donate due to some health issues, but I wish her the best in dealing with her health issues.
Marchel--I don't know Liz but if she is a friend of yours she must be someone special. Great way to show your support...hope she makes a quick and full recovery!
RUSSELL, I know that Liz will appreciate you donating in her name. Her spirits sounded good for all that she is going through.
TERAL, She is a sweet heart. I miss her not being on the rain.
DIANE, I know that Liz appreciates the prayers.
CHRIS, I can't even imagine what she is going through but she still sounded chipper on the phone.
ANDREA, I know that Liz will appreciate blood being given in her name. I never understood how it worked but I guess that is why it is a blood bank.
MIKE, Thanks! Hopefully it will get warmer before the blood drive because we are REAL wimps in the cold. That could hurt the turn out but surely the cold snap won't last that long.
LYNDA, Liz has not been active on the rain for quite some time due to her health issues. She will appreciate her AR friends (even those who don't know her) chipping in.
WENDY, Liz will appreciate your prayers.
MELINA, Thanks for your thoughts. I know Liz will appreciate.
TERI, I hope she does also. This is a very intricate surgery. Only 250 have ever been done.
Marchel, I saw this on Facebook and came here to comment. I will be praying for Liz, so sorry she is having to go through this.
Thank you for letting everyone know they can donate and bank it in Liz's name ANYWHERE.
Come on folks lets bank lots of blood for Liz.
I am in Tn, will be home Monday and will take care of it right away.
Marchel - I, too, love Liz and I think she's a very special lady. I will re-blog your post in an effort to help spread the word.
I think I've heard Jason talk about her before; I will pray for her and your efforts here. Good luck!
Hopefully this post will get theword out and get the needed blood. Unfortunately I can't donateblood due to the fact I was in Germany 1989-1991. This is due to mad cow. This is something that people also need to know... If your were out of the country during a certain time frame, then donatingblood is not an option. I will repost this to help get the word out.
While I won't be in Texas I'm a regular Indian donor.
Good luck
Tony
Marchel,
Too soon after my last pint for me to donate but am keeping Liz in my prayers. Very loving of you to alert us.
Definitely thinking of Liz and her family during this trying time!! Thanks for keeping the community updated!
Marchel,
While I can't help Liz, this post reminds me to help others. I do go regularly.
In Canada, Canadian Blood Services permits donations every 56 days. And, giving blood is actually healthy for the donor.
Brian
Marchel, you're a good friend. Posting this was a great idea. I'm no longer able to donate blood, but I can send a prayer or two Liz' way, and wish her the very best.
Marchel. So sorry to hear about Liz. I'm not able to give blood but will certainly keep her in my prayers.
Liz reached out to help me as a newbie here on AR - she has the biggest heart, I will hope and pray that her transplants come soon - what a fighter she is!
Tell her to stay strong, keep us informed!
I just heard about Liz's condition and am praying for her. Let us know when you have updates.
We will be praying for the success of the blood drive, and for Liz's surgery. Bless you, Marchel, for getting the word out.
Sarah
Wow. Wish I could send a pint...
Ken
Hi Marchel, Please send a blessing to Liz and I hope she gets everything she needs. I would donate blood myself but I'm under the weight you have to be to donate it. I hope those that can help out and bank it in her name.
Good 'reach out' . . . I blogged last week about the American Red Cross Blood Drive being sponsored by a local coffee shop. I like to see our community in action!
Hi Marchel,
We are holding a blood drive and a bone marrow drive for a friend of ours and it feels great to be able to help. Talk to your local blood bank about hosting a blood drive at your office to really spur donations.
We will also be praying for Liz. Best wishes for her!
Howdy and Evenen Marchel
I'm sure sorry that I had found your post, about our really fine friend Liz, We sure have had alot of fun in the Texas Real Estate group. Thats for sure!!! Like voting on Tex's name, planing the wedding for Tex Rain and MS Molly Blogger.
When you talk with Liz the next time, Please let her know she is still in my prayers each and evey day!!! I'll be sure to go and give blood, and make sure they bank it in Liz's name.
Liz is such a sweet and kind lady, and I miss her very much. I'm go right over to let Carl and Ceil know about your post for Liz, and leave a link for your post for them.
We are having a blood drive by our office in two weeks. I will see if I can get some of the donated blood credited for Liz. Thank you for getting the word out, Marchel. Liz and her family will be in our prayers.
Marchel - Next time they bring the mobile unit up to Startzville we'll go over and donate and also mention it to some other folks.
Any more info. other then Liz Carter - Houston TX. ?
Marchel,
Just got off the phone with you.. know it was a "late" phone call.. I will leave this up on my 'puter and come back to it in the morning...
I wish I was closer. I just got a postcard to donate again with our local blood bank.
MISSY, Liz will appreciate your prayers and your blood.
JASON, Liz is a special lady. I was surprised when I got on our local Tempo and saw her smiling face. I gave her a call and she sounded upbeat but could not talk for long without being winded. I'm glad that we can take the information to a new level.
AARON, I'm sure you have heard Jason talk about her. She is a wonderful fun lady. Even through this she is so upbeat.
ROLAND, I did not know that being out of the country during a particular time affected giving blood. Why is that? You mentioned Mad Cow but that was a long time ago. Thanks for your help.
TONY, I found it interesting that we could donate in her name.
IRENE, Good for you! I've always been on the cusp of the weight you need to be. The one time I donated after going over the weight I got sick right after and have been a bit scared. I guess I need to give it a go again.
STEVEN, I know that Liz appreciates your thoughts.
BRIAN, Blood is the gift of life wherever it is given.
LOTTIE, I truly believe in the power of prayer. Thanks for your prayers for her.
BRYANT, The Lord likes it when two or more come together. Thanks for your prayers for Liz.
VIRGINIA, She has a HUGE heart. I loved getting to know her when we were co-moderating the Texas Real Estate Group.
TRISHA, She is one strong lady. She was so upbeat when I talked to her.
ANN, As I know more I will keep everyone posted. It could be tomorrow and it could be in a year according to Liz.
SARAH and JOHN, I know that Liz appreciates all our prayers.
KEN, I know she appreciates all the AR love.
CAROLE, I am now over the weight I need to be but the one time I donated I got sick afterwards. I guess I need to be brave and go for it.
GARY WOLTAL, She said there have only been about 250 of these operations. VERY scary stuff.
CARLA, The community post are one of the things that I love about the rain.
Hello Marchel and I knew this post would be featured by "The Gods" and so I wanted to wait to leave my comment until later. This is a very heart warming post and we all wish Liz the best and may God be with her, I know we all are from Activerain.
I would really like to keep this post going and noticed so I have featured it at one of the friendliest groups at Activerain ..............
FRIENDS AT ACTIVERAIN
"What are friends for?"
VB ;o)
LARRY, I just hope the weather is nice the day of the blood drive we are such weather wimps here. It is getting good publicity as every time I click on our MLS I see her face.
DALE, I know that Liz misses all of us also. I will keep you posted as I hear more.
BRUCE, I know Liz will appreciate any blood that can be banked in her name.
CARL and CEIL, I don't know if it makes a difference but it is Liz Carter in Katy TX. I expect Houston will work though.
JUDI, I so enjoyed talking to you. I guess I feel like Oklahoma is almost a neighbor since I'm from Kansas and now live in Texas. I spent so much of my youth traveling through Oklahoma. My husbands Dad was from Ponca City so we also spent a lot of time going there.
LANE, According to Liz you can donate in her name. I guess that goes state to state.
Hi Marchel, Just found this post, been off the Rain for a few days. Will do all we can here in Kerrville. We love Liz so very much!
Marchel-So sorry to hear of Liz's health issues. We're hoping for a good outcome. Thanks for posting.
Marchel,
My prayers for this fellow agent, hope that everything will be good, thanks for the post and letting us know !
We should add her to our prayers and I certain will. Thank you for bringing it to us and hopefully keep us informed.
Marchel
I am so sorry for her and her family. This is tough . Are they needing a certain blood type?
ROBERT, Thanks for featuring this in Friends at Activerain. I know that Liz will like that.
RICKI, She is such a caring and thoughtful person.
WAYNE, Thanks for stopping by. I'm praying for that good outcome also.
RAY, I know that Liz appreciates all our prayers.
CHARLES, I hope that when people see comments coming though on this post that it will be a reminder to pray for Liz. I truly believe in the power of prayer.
TREY, According to Liz type of blood does not matter. It is like a bank and when you give blood in her name it goes in to her bank.
Hello my friends...
Marcel thanks so much for the AR update. I keep meaning to start back posting to my blog here and I will, it just seems like other things come up when I have the energy :). I've been on the active transplant list for a little over 2 months now, and yes the call can come at any moment. It' exciting and scary at the same time. The ability to breath and regain my life as it used to be far outweigh any pain, complications and recovery time that a double lung, liver transplant will cause...so I'm way more excited and thrilled with what my future holds.
I'm on the list at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital here in Houston at the medical center. You can donate blood and have it be credited to my account any time anywhere, Is either Liz or Elizabeth Carter.
I'll write a post soon, and think about my friends here a lot. I'm still reading and enjoying everyone's posts. Rhett is barking for me to take him out...so more later. Thanks for everything
Marchel,
I do not think I will make it but I hope all goes well.
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
HI TO ALL,
I hope you all caught Liz's comment. She pointed out that to have blood banked in her name you must tell them it is for Liz Carter at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in the medical center in Houston TX.
I would have donated blood but blood banks still summarily discriminate against gay people, even those who have been in a 15½-year monogamous relationship. My thoughts will have to do in this case.
Marchel, will be praying for Liz and if I can give blood, will do it. I have been sick, so my doctor may not want me to do it at this time.
