On our daughter's Flickr site she called this Dead and Living. I am calling it New Beginnings! Years ago I remember a radio commentator saying we have two seasons in Houston; summer and January. I for one am ready for January to be over with and the new spring beginnings to start.

Hello Marchel and a wonderful photo with a wonderful title, thanks for sharing!
VB ;o)
Hi Marchel - I too like new beginnings.... the freshness of it is alive with hope and great expectations.
Marchel - Your daughter must be cracking up to see that renamed her photo. The marketing guru in you just couldn't leave the title as Dead and Living. That's why they pay you the big bucks! New Beginnings it is. Another lovely photo by your daughter. Keep them coming.
Marchel.
Before the rains started this evening, I noticed that we are seeing signs of Spring. Very early signs, but nonetheless, signs. Ornamental trees whose name I cannot remember are blooming in the street medians.
It's only a few more weeks and Spring will be upon us!
Marchel - I think we are having the same dream - Summer is Coming!
So awesome to see new growth. You're right. It's a new beginning.
Marchel.
Good contrast and comparison with the new growth coming right through the old leaves. :)
Steve
Marchel
What a beautiful picture with great contrast and depth
Marchel
That radio guy was right. I am still chuckling over his remark. Nice photo and hope your new year is going well!
It is nice to see some green, Marchel. It is getting pretty brown up here now that the snow has melted off. Surely you don't want all that heat to return do you?
ROBERT, Thanks for stopping by! I think our daughter has a gift but then I'm a proud Mama.
DIANE, The spring is my favorite season and that is why! I love it when everything starts turning green. Now normally we would be green all year but three days of 20 degree temperatures made a huge hit on our foliage. It is so sad to see all the dead palm trees.
GAIL, I saw this photo several days ago and I usually grab her photos with her titles. I guess the marketing guru in me just couldn't do Dead and Living (lol).
MIKE, I am so ready for Spring. We have lived here 14 years now and this was the hardest winter we have had. It is so sad to see all the dead tropical plants. We had to take down a large oleander and I'm still not sure about our Bottle bush.
KAREN, I do think we are on the same wavelength today!
Marchel I can't wait to see the green plants coming up from out of the snow around here. That is our old and new.
LOREENA, I love spring and all its new beginnings. We are already preparing our garden. We are going to do raised bed gardens this year. I have had my husband making them.
STEVE, Our daughter has a gift for that contrast and comparison. I told her she should consider getting a masters in photography. She has a bachelors in graphic design and told me that she didn't want to get burnt out on something she loved like she did with graphic design. (It was a difficult program that she went through). She is now an International flight attendant.
TOM, I think our daughter takes wonderful pictures!
TREY, That radio guy???? Thanks, I'm off to a wonderful year!
BRUCE, I can take the heat so much better than I can take the cold. It can hardly become too hot for me. We rarely get over 100; although we have lots of 95 degree days. I grew up in Kansas and to be quite honest I don't see our summer any hotter than their summers.
Nice to see the green peaking abck through and spring is on the way! Have a great week ahead!
What a great composition, Marchel. I happen to like your New Beginnings better than Dead and Living. No offense to your daughter, but your title sounds much more positive. Love it.
I am sooo ready for Spring! Bring it on. Lovely photo.
I still need to get through February and March before I can think of Spring.
We just had our January thaw. Time to get back to winter for the next few weeks...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Marcel like you I can't wait for spring, I am looking forward to getting my hands in the dirt. This photo is a nice contrast of what both seasons offer.
Marchel,
We're months away from any new beginnings around here. I'm looking forward to it after a tough winter.
Rich
Wish the cycles of our seasons would move at faster paces...Cherise
Marchel,
Very nice shot as I look at the clouds and the sleet on the deck....

Marchel - no offense to your daughter but I like New Begginings better than Dead and Living. Love the photo and glad you've got spring peaking thru. We've still a long way to go.
Marchel, great title for the photo! We are still several weeks away from anything like that! But once that January is past, at least it usually starts warming up!
Well we are all looking forward to Spring and Summer! Great shot!
your friend in Charlottesville Virginia!
New Beginings are always good. Thanks for sharing this photo with us.
Marchel, Please call me if you get to summer when January is over! Goodness could I use some warm weather and sunshine :)
GEORGE, I remember the days of the green coming out of the snow. I don't miss shoveling that stuff!!
RUSSELL, I sure hope spring is on the way. Our palm trees are so sad. It looks like many of them are dead, dead, dead. We have lived here 14 years and this has been the hardest winter yet.
HEATHER, I loved my daughters picture but the title did nothing for me. My glass is almost always HALF FULL.
JOAN, This has been a hard winter for us also. We are not use to temperatures below freezing several days in a row.
TERRY, I do remember those days of waiting for February and March. Shoot in Colorado I can remember it snowing in May and June.
MICHAEL, It is so unusual for us to have a winter like this. You just have to love this global warming. Our palm trees are so sad. I'm fairly sure many of them are DEAD.
JENNIFER, I love putting my hands in the dirt. My Dad is still the gardner my Mother has nothing to do with it. I LOVE puttering with my garden and eating my produce. We were eating lettuce I grew all fall.
RICHARD, Spring is my favorite season. I LOVE the new beginnings!
CHERISE, It always seems like winter goes on and on. We lived in Colorado for 15 years and I remember all those soccer games standing out in the snow and yuck watching my children play.
ANN, I loved the contrast in the shot. It does show the deal and the living but I'm sticking with New beginnings (lol).
Marchel,
Waiting patiently for spring.....NOT!
Ann Hayden in Wildwood, MO
LORA, I love living here because our new beginnings start so early.
TONY, I do think January is always the turning point. Even when we lived in Colorado I don't remember subarctic temperatures past January.
CHARLES, I LOVE living in Spring TX because spring happens so early here. I'm ready we are preparing our garden area. I am doing 6 raised beds this year. Potatoes will be planted mid February.
DIANE, I also love New beginnings. I can't wait for everything to start greening up. Our leaves come on in March so it is not long.
CAROLE, This last week we had a number of 70 degree temperatures. We could still have a freeze so I bought plant covers today in preparation. I tried before our last freeze but everyone was out. Since I'm prepared I'm hoping it doesn't happen.
ANN, I grew up in Wichita Kansas so I KNOW exactly where you are coming from!
Summer and January - I can certainly relate to that! Sacramento has only experienced rain and fog all month long, with the exception of one Sunday Afternoon, when the sun peeked through! I love the picture. . .Wonderful colors!
Marchel- I was in Spring for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Lovely town.
I also enjoy the photos. I'll be looking forward to your blogs in the future, just subscribed.
PATRICIA, I remember spring/winter and then spring/winter and then more spring/winter when we lived in Colorado.
MYRL, We have not had a great winter either. Now this last week has been beautiful but I hear winter is coming back Thursday.
MELISSA, I'm thinking you must have some family here in Spring. Maybe we can meet sometime when you come.
Marchel,
Those pictures are always beatiful to share, keep that great work and keep us looking them :P !!!!
Wow, already! I love to see the new growth peeking through. Springtime is like new beginnings. Since you lived here Marchel, you know we have a ways to go...I'm a little jealous :-)
From death comes new life, at least as far as Mother and Father Nature are concerned.
RAY, I have to give my daughter the credit for the picture. I love her pictures!
MARY, I do remember waiting a long time for spring in Colorado. This has been a rough winter for us so I'm ready for spring. We have lived here 14 years and this winter has been the hardest. I guess it must be a common problem this winter as I commented on a post that a guy from Tampa wrote and he was complaining about the same thing. Funny he had lived there 14 years also.
JIM, God does have a way of recycling. My daughter and I went to the natural science museum and watched an IMAX on bugs today and it was so awesome watching the bug cycle. What an awesome world we live in!
