Litter in Spring TX, I still don't get it!!!

Litter in Spring TXThis is the second time that I have written a post about litter in Spring TX and I still don't get it .  We had a heavy rain overnight and as I was driving down Hufsmith-Kuykendahl this morning the ditches were full of water.  These are big ditches so when I mean full I mean full.  I was almost overwhelmed looking at the trash that was floating in the ditches.

I just DON'T GET IT.  I love our country and I'm proud to live here.  I can't imagine throwing trash out the window.  Precinct 4 here in Spring TX maintaine our roads using prisoners to clean the roads.  I see them once or twice a month picking up trash but it is NEVER ending process!!

I don't know what the answer is.  I know there are suppose to be fines for littering but I don't think it is something that is enforced.  Maybe a little more enforcement needs to happen.  What do you think?

Marchel, I agree! It really irritates me when people flick their cigarette butts out the window like it's no big deal! Amazes me!

It does not make sense when people litter.  I just don't understand it.  Right now we have so much snow and ice it is covering up everything,

It makes me wonder what the homes are like of the people who throw their trash out on the roads.

Posted by Irene Tron (Precept Ministries International) about 2 years ago

Marchel,  Litter is a horrible problem.  I used to ride my horse along the road a lot and it amazed me how horrible people were.  Trash everywhere.  I've never heard of anyone enforcing the existing laws -- personally, I wish that they would.

Howdy and Evenen there Marchel

I believe there should more enforcement of litter laws alover our Country. But I believe the fines should be done away with and instead, folks that are caught litteren should have walk and clean at least 8 miles of the road or highway they littered, once a week for at least a month. Maybe then they would stop disrespecting Mother Earth and the rest of us.

Marchel, I hate to say that I believe it's all over.  It can become quite a problem here and flood the sewers and drains but some people are thoughtless.

Marchel,

Sickening isn't it? And yes, maybe a little more enforcement (if possible at times) night help.

Marchel, I can tell you for sure that if they put a very high fine no one would through trash again, but it's not the case, I hate it !

Marchel we have "adopt a road" programs out where we folks agree to take on a one mile stretch of road and clean up the litter a couple of times a year.  We also have beach clean-ups twice a year.  All I know is that I see the community service crews (you know for crimes committed) out cleaning all the time.

Maybe your criminals need some more community service.  Oregon is really clean.

Hello Marchel and people just don't respect nature and keeping our earth clean, they think there is always someone to pick their trash!

Marchel,

I had the impression littering was fairly uncommon nowadays. Guess it isn't from the geographically dispersed comments...  Totally unacceptable!

It is so sad that litter seems to be very widespread, as it is so disgusting.

By the way, " Hufsmith-Kuykendahl" is a mouthful.  Is that a "Boulevard?"   ;)

Marchel

I used to be one of those that tossed butts out the window...long since quit the habit. Now I feel guilty.

I don't think I ever saw the law fine anyone!

It really is disgusting how people treat nature.  You can't walk anywhere without seeing someone's litter.

Marchel, it has gotten better around here, but we still have people that litter.  Maybe if someone littered on their front lawn they would get the message.

DON, I just don't get litter!  Just like you keep your house cleaned you also need to keep your country clean.  It amazes me!!

JOAN, I remember when that blanket of snow would make everything look so clean.  I also remember when all that snow and ice started melting and the yuck that came along.  It makes that litter even yuckier.

IRENE, I'll bet I have shown the homes of some of those people who litter.

GARY, I'll bet you can REALLY see the litter on horseback!! We have laws but no one seems to enforce them.

DALE, That would take care of the problem.  I had dinner with our daughter this evening and she was telling me how our discipline made her who she is today.

CAROLE, I have noticed litter when I visited our daughter in NYC.  It seems to be a problem almost everywhere.

LYNDA, It is sad and only getting worse.  I do think litter enforcement would be great but I doubt if it happens.  I love Dale's idea to make them pick up litter.  That would make the culprit think about doing it again.

RAY, I have NEVER heard of ANYONE being fined for littering.  It is quite the problem but everyone gets away with it.

MELINA, We also have the adopt a road program but it is out of hand here.  I see our prisoners picking up the litter but they clean one mile and someone comes behind them littering. I'm glad to hear that your area of Oregon is doing good; it sounds like much of the rest of us have an ongoing problem.

ROBERT, I think you hit the nail on the head. People just expect that someone will come behind them picking up.  Such as life!!!

IRENE, It sounds like some areas are doing better than others.  Ours is a mess and you are right; totally unacceptable!

Hi Marchel-They have prisoners clean up the roadsides and it was amazing how many bags they picked up just on one main highway. Sad that people are that uncaring about the world we live in. Have a super Sunday. <SMILE>

MIKE, It is sad to hear that it is a problem over such diverse areas.  We need to figure out what Oregon is doing to keep their property clean.

CHERISE, I think a whole lot of people don't think.  My daughter is an International flight attendant and told me she was in Germany and one of the other flight attendants took a McDonalds sack and chucked it in to a vacant lot.  My daughter went ballistic and the girl told her she didn't want to carry the sack. Unbelievable. It is even worse that people chuck from the car.  All they have to do and wait until they get home and throw it away.

TREY, I think my husband may have been guilty of that also but as you it was a long time ago.

DEBRA, It is amazing how we treat our land!

GEORGE, I'll bet littering on their front yard would get the message across.  Well maybe not they seem to have blinders on.

Marchel - Im sure its enforced, but it has to be witnessed. It may be something that never goes away. We have that in certain areas, but have been pretty lucky that its not often to see a ton of trash somewhere. We have the trash cans placed at stop lights. Do you have that in Spring?

Marchel  It is annoying that after all the money spent to bring about awareness there are still idiots, yes idiots, who don't get it

It is sad to me that people have so little respect for their surroundings. The people who litter are, I am convinced, the same people who can live with dirty dishes in the sink, papers and trash piled high in their homes, etc...I could be wrong, I often am, but I share your disgust with people who think the world is their trash can. I often will pick things up people drop and keep my mouth shut, it is easier than trying to impose my order into their chaos.

People should get tickets for littering and then have to do community service and go out and pick up litter for 6 months and then they would stop.

With all the crime in the world, I suspect littering is the least of the police department's problems. What happened to the Adopt A Highway program there in Texas?

Hi Marchel.  I remembered when you wrote about this in the past.  The problems have gotten worse as morals and decency has plummeted.  I share your sentiment.

SHARON, We also have prisoners cleaning up our roads but they can't keep up.  It makes me SAD!

JOHN, I think part of our problem lies with most of the areas of Spring/Magnolia/Tomball not being in an actual city.  Most of our area is in either unincorporated Harris or Montgomery County. (Parts of Tomball are in a town but only part). Long story to say NO we don't have trash cans at stop lights.  We don't have a city government to do that so it would have to be the county and I think they are busy trying to pick up the trash.

KAREN, I SO AGREE!! My daughter and I were talking today and we can't even remember littering. I did pass that non-littering on to my young adult children.

LARRY, I do think that I have shown some of these litterers homes. Often the homes that I'm talking about are now a foreclosure or short sale (go figure).

RICKI, If they would only listen to you the litter problem would be solved.

JIM, We have the adopt a highway program but as when anything I think groups start out good but then lose steam.

DIANE, When I decided to write about this again I went to my last post and as I was going through I saw your friendly face.  It is EVEN WORSE THAN when I last wrote my post!!!

Marchel,
Well they should be fined, that's why we have this kind of issues these days with people like that, anyway :)

Marchel people have different value system, some just don't think twice about tossing a can from their moving vehicle on to some else property.
