Speechless Sunday - Just Wishing in Spring TX!!

Spring in Spring TX

Typically Valentines Day in Spring TX is the day to prune your crepe myrtles.  Not so this year.  We are looking at having temperatures below freezing the next three days.  We have lived here 14 years and I have NEVER seen a winter like this one.  Where's the Global warming? This is not what we signed up for.  I'm ready for Spring (lol).

Hang in there, Marchel.  Those 100 degree days can't be too far in the future.  Thanks for the look of the beautiful green plants.  It gives us hope up here in the Midwest.

Marchel

I tilled the vegetable garden today hoping to catch a few more freezes to work on the weeds and grubs in the earth.  But I am ready too for some warm weather!

Marchel:

It's colder, but thank goodness we don't live in Washington, D.C.  I don't mind a little frost every now and then.

Marchel I too would like to see spring, this is certainly a strange winter for you.

Are you going to raincamp?

Wonderful looking garden scene Marchel!  I think we are all more than ready to have spring approach at a more rapid pace!

BRUCE, I'm so ready for our 95, 95, 95 days.  We rarely get over 100 but I would even deal with that.

TREY, We are starting raised bed gardens.  I'm doing 6 of them and have soil in 4 of them but it has been so YUCKY we have not been able to get the soil for the other 4 beds.  Oh well at least I can go ahead and plant my potatoes.

CAROL, We moved from up north and I keep telling myself that as I'm complaining about the weather (LOL).  We are so spoiled here with our weather!

JENNIFER, I'm so ready for Spring this year.  I'm not making it to raincamp in Dallas but I would like to go to another one somewhere in the US.  I'm hoping for either Phoenix or Denver?  Is there a list of upcoming rain camps somewhere?

Hi Marchel, We had warmer temps during the day but some cold weather blew in this evening.  I will be happy to see the spring flowers.

Marchel this has been a funny year.  It seems to be getting warmer in the North and colder in the South.  Kinda of backwards :)

Marchel~

My son tells me climate change may be around to stay...El Nino, he says...but I don't know. All I know is that I miss the mild winters we have had in the past,  and I am a fan of sun and thaw.

Marchel,

This is the coldest winter I recall here in southern Florida, too. It was in only the 50s for the high today. :)

Marchel,
You do a great job when it is a matter to upload nice picture taken by you or your family, anyway it's not good to have these kind of temperatures especially on valentines, but here in Colorado is cold as well, keep the good work ! :)

I know you are missing your former home about now, where this kind of weather is NORMAL!  =o) Family in Wichita Falls and the Dallas area were snowed in, but said that it was better today...good luck!

Actually from what I understand, this is what happens with global warming...we can expect to see some horrendous hots and colds...this rhythm aptly seems to be developing stronger each year...Cherise

MYRL, I don't know when I have had such a case of spring fever as I do this year.

RICKI, I don't know about you but my yard is going to have a TOTAL overhaul come this spring.

SHIRLEY, Same with us it was up to 60 yesterday but then dipped back down to freezing last night.

GEORGE, It has been an odd weather year. Last year we had an extremely warm winter but not so this winter.

IRENE,Thanks that's in our back yard about May.  Come July nothing is flowering because it is too hot (as I'm sure you remember lol).

TERI, This year I'm missing the green also.  We typically stay green most of the year but our yards remind me of our yards when we lived in Kansas and Colorado.

JANEANNE,I have heard El Nino as to the cause also.  Actually El Nino comes and goes.  I can remember a rough El Nino year when we lived in Colorado and that was over 16 years ago.

GARY WOLTAL, I have a neighbor who is from here and is LOVING it.  NOT ME!!

LYNDA, I won't be taking pictures of this garden spot any time soon as it looks sad, sad, sad at the moment.

STEVE, This is the coldest that I can recall here also.  I did do some searching though and found it got clear down to 5 degrees in 1940.

RAY, I won't be pruning anything until more towards the end of February this year.  That is if it gets warm by then.

CHERYL, I have to admit our grass looks like Colorado grass this year.  I am not use to it getting so brown in a winter it usually still has some green in it. This is not what we signed up for when we moved here (lol).

CHERISE, Personally I just don't buy the global warming theory.  It was warming in the 1990's but when it start cooling again in the 2000's then it was all of a sudden climate change.  I think these cyclical patterns have been going on forever.  I did some investigation of cold in Houston and back in 1940 it got down to 5 degrees.  Thank goodness we were only the 20's.  The cold still took out all our palm trees.  To be honest the palm trees are not native trees; we have brought them in because they look pretty around our pools.

You know I've read in books that pruning or what they call "tipping" crepe myrtles is really bad for them. Makes them open to disease. It's a controversial subject, I know when you tip them though, the flowers and buds become much more plentiful.

Marcel your photography is beautiful I visited Texas when I was very young but haven't been back since I am an amateur photographer so it looks like a candy store for me. Coment on your earleir post about climate chages. All I can say is that the times they are a changing. We go from 70's one weekend to snowing the next weekend. It is true the only constant thing in life is change.
