Again this year I attended the Memorial ceremony at Houston National Cemetery! Again it was an incredible experience. You will notice in the pictures that I have a lot of pictures from the Gold Star Moms. As most of you know our son got out of the Army a year ago after two tours of Iraq. I can't even imagine being a Gold Star Mom as this means you have lost a son or daughter.

The ceremony was again a beautiful tribute to our fallen soldiers. It was somber yet meaningful! This year Governor Rick Perry delived the key not speech. Governor Perry is a Veteran of the United States Air force. He served between 1972 to 1977 flying C-130 tactical airlift aircraft in the US, Europe and the Middle East. Governor Perry talked about our Greatest Generation and how we now have a new Greatest Generation. Here's a little excerpt from his speech.
I loved Amazing Grace in Bagpipes by Ian Martin and company. I hope you enjoy it also. (I was sitting by the handicapped section and the gentleman who was watching over that section made sure they had plenty of water so you will see him in the video several times handing out water, as it was very HOT!
We have such a debt of gratitude for those who are serving in our Armed forces, those who have served and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom is not FREE!!

Marchel, You are right Freedom is not Free. It is a heavy price many pay for others and we should remember them.
Marchel - Yes we have much to be thankful for. Your last sentence said it all "We have such a debt of gratitude for those who are serving in our Armed forces, those who have served and particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Freedom is not FREE!!".
Hi Marchel, I too love the song Amazing Grace, and it was a fitting tribute by the bagpipe players. It is nice to know that some communities do honor our fallen soldiers who have served our nation. Thanks for showing this, and again I am so glad that your son is home safe from his service to our country.
I remember you waiting for your son to come home....and now you paid a wonderful tribute to all who serve and served our country.
Marchel, as difficult as it is, I agree with General Patton, "we should not mourn the passing of such men, we should thank God that they lived." I do thank God for their service!
Marcel, This has been is a rough weekend for me. I made the choice not to attend any services. Good that you did. I just hung with a few close friends...
Helping you help others live their American dream...
Marchel, what a great event. Loved the post, like Bill Gasett said to me, I can always count on you to post on a holiday as I know you love America as much as I do.
Marchel, it's hard to believe it's been a year since your son returned home. Loved the photos and especially the video of Amazing Grace played on bagpipes. It was surely a moving ceremony.
Hi Marchel,
Nice tribute to our service men and women, thank you.
I attened a special event myself which included many of the WWII Vets and I absolutely loved it.
Thanks for the great pictures and reminder of freedom we should be grateful for and the soldiers who have lost thier lives for that freedom.
