Preserving Trees in Tomball TX!!

Preserving Trees in Tomball TX

One of the many things that I love about Tomball TX are the trees. It has amazed me at the imaginative ways the trees have been preserved.

For instance if you notice the picture with the two large trees and the picnic tables.  This is in the Wal-mart parking lot.  This park is not built to the side of the parking lot it is in the middle of the parking lot.  There is parking on either side and you can drive in front also.

If you also notice the tree with the building built around it.  That is the local Wood Forest Bank in Tomball.  They built their bank around this tree. I am in Tomball Business and Professional Women and when I was on the board we would have our board meeting in their Conference Room.  The Conference Room looks out at this tree.

The cougar tree was a casualty from Hurricane Ike.   I wrote an entire post around the Cougar tree if you would like more information. The artist who carved the tree is Master Wood Carver Nathan Smith, a local Tomball artist.  He carved two cougars in a rocky cliff setting out of this fallen oak tree.  Yes, the cougars are in recognition of The Tomball Cougars.

The local Tomball ball park was also built around a tree.  The tree of course provides a lot of shade to stand under and watch the game.

You can also see how the utility company preserves the trees by cutting the branches around the line instead of chopping the tree down.

Please realize this is just normal people doing this.  There are not any town restrictions that say you must keep your trees.  These pictures were all taken in the City Limits of Tomball.  Tomball the hometown with a heart was going green before it was popular to go green.

Hi Marchel,  I just took a picture of the cougar tree in Tomball a few days ago.  Guess I need to wait a few days to post a blog containing it.  Have a good day.

Hi Marchel.. a wonderful topic and illustrated nicely.  I love trees too!  We had so many harmed by the ice storm the year before.  It is nice to see most of these are healthy and thriving.

Marchel~

Oh how wonderful are those trees! Imagine what they have witnessed in their life times...so happy they are still here to share with our grandkids.

Hi Marchel, your photo are beautiful.  It is  sad to lose a tree, they give us so much.  Nice post about the trees in Tomball!

Marchel, sounds as though you live in a great community - and ditto what Mary said. You have a great slide show.

Hi Marchel, Now that is my idea of going Green. I love all the trees and there is something about them that give me a sense of comfort and even security. We don't see so many of the wonderful trees as in other pasts of the country. But we do have whole areas that have wonderful trees.  In Sacramento, the streets are tree lined and I was really taken with that. When I was looking for a new home, I found the area where I currently live and I chose it because of the beautiful tree lined streets. I talk to clients all the time about why I chose to live here and now doubt they felt feel the same way since a number of them live near by.

Unfortunately, there are not a lot of older trees in the Phoenix area.  The heat probably makes it difficult for some trees to survive, but there doesn't seem to be the respect for them here either.  There are laws in place now to protect saguaro cactus, but I'm not aware of any for trees.  Great photos of beautiful trees!

Marchel,

I appreciate the community effort to connect with nature and maintain harmony.  Trees provide life in so many ways, even spiritually with the deep meanings behind the Tree of Life.

Gorgeous looking trees Marchel.  And you did a great job with the slide show.  That Oak in the first slide is spectacular!  I remember being in an art class when I was in high school.  And there were about 25 of us out there painting our rendition of an oak tree.  No two paintings were even remotely alike. . .That's why they call it art, I guess!

Marchel, I love trees!  I am glad that people are preserving them.  In some of the newer subdivisions here the trees aren't very big and to me that makes the whole subdivision look bare!  I know that once the trees mature it will look really nice.  I really like the cougar tree, a lot of talent went into that!

Marchel,

Nice slide show. The first shot was dramatic enough. Then you had others. :)

Marchel,

I love the different types of trees you have in Texas. I visited San Antonio recently and admired the old trees on the Alamo grounds. Beautiful!

Marchel, I agree preserve the trees! people are so quick to cut them all down and when they do the neighborhood lack character and become boring looking.  Where I live they have cut sooo many down and it's sad to see.  I hope they keep those trees, they are beautiful :)

LIZ, That is such a cool Cougar tree!  I don't think we can talk enough about it.  I travel that way quite often and watched it being sculpted.  It was interesting to watch!

JOAN, We lost a number of trees from Hurricane Ike! Luckily we have LOTS of trees and we are always planting new ones.

JANE ANNE, They are very cool trees and I'm glad they all made it through the hurricane I was telling Joan about.

MARY, Thanks!  I love trees also!  I remember losing a tree when we lived in Westminster and I was so bummed.  They told us we didn't water it enough.  Not a problem we have here.

GEORGE, These people have been creative for a very long time.

SHARON, Thanks for the compliment on my slide show.  I learned how to do that from Myrl!

WILLIAM, We fought coming to the Houston area as we thought it was a big dirty city!  Oh my were we WRONG! Our area is gorgeous with lots and lots of beautiful TREES!  We would often fly through Houston and now I think; you couldn't look out the window and notice the trees!

DOREEN, The Woodlands does have laws to protect trees but the residents of Tomball do it on their own.

CHERISE, I have always loved trees!  I love all the trees throughout the bible and all the scriptures around trees, vines and branches.  I particularly love John 15:5 (I am the vine and you are the branches.)

MYRL, Art is in the eye of the beholder; isn't it!  Thanks for the compliment on the slide show; I had a good teacher!

TONY, In Spring we have those subdivisions that clear cut to cram as many houses as possible.  I find it so sad!!

STEVE, I love the creative ways Tomball has saved trees!

SANDY, We have lived in this area for 14 years now and I have LOVED our trees.  Our crepe myrtles are all blooming right now and are beautiful!

LAURA, We also have that clear cutting going on.  These older areas are the areas that preserve the trees.  I wish the newer areas would learn from the old.
