I was driving in to Tomball today and passed a sign that said "Found Cow". Considering there's a whole pasture of cows next door I'm not sure how you tell one from another but someone has lost a cow.
I absolutely love Tomball and where else would you find someone advertising that they had found a cow. The nickname for Tomball is the hometown with a heart and it truly is. The people are incredibly friendly and quite honest as you can tell from the found Cow sign.
If you have lost a cow in Tomball you can locate your cow off of Hufsmith road not too far from FM 2978.
All kidding aside this is one of the reasons that you might want to consider living in a subdivision even if you live in the City of Tomball. Tomball has light restrictions which do allow cows to live in the city.
I have written several post that relates to this subject of deed restriction and Home owner's associations. For additional information please visit them at:
- Why you deed restrictions in Harris and Montgomery County
- Why you need to live in an HOA!
- The Vegetable Patch; no deed restrictions in Spring TX!
- Municipal Utility Districts in Harris & Montgomery Counties
- Why buy in a Homeowner’s Association if you live in Northwest Harris & Montgomery Counties
Hopefully that cow has found her home!

Hi Marchel, what a wonderful place to live. I thoroughly enjoy areas that offer friendly and honest people. Love the sign!!
Marchel, that's a lot better than the story I heard from a resident of Rockwall on Friday. It seems her daughter's horse got out of the pasture and the neighbor called Animal Control, instead of putting him back in, calling the owner, or posting a friendly sign. It cost her money to rescue the pony from the city...not a friendly neighbor at all!
Dang, I gotta get me a cow in Jersey. At least a goat. Then I can trade in the lawn mower for perhaps ... another goat? Hello Marchel! Just stopping by to see how you're doing.
Marchel, now that is very friendly neighbor, I have to say....
How funny. I'm glad you had your camera. Lastly, that was really nice of them to make the sign.
Now that sounds like a great place to call home! I don't know that I have every seen a city where cows are allowed inside the city limits!! That's cool! Hope the lost cow makes his way back home!
How on earth do you tell oen cow from another - good question. Looks like my kind of place.
Marchel, I have never seen signs like that.Doesn't it makes you feel good about neighborhood.
Marchel-Love the sign and the name of the town. Very original
Marchel: I hope that cow found his owners, I guess that's why they brand them sometimes???
Hi Marchel,
As a kid I grew up with cows all around us, yet I've never seen a sign like that. Tomball sounds like a brea place to live!
Hi Marchel, I wonder if the town of Tomball consider this as part of their community pet policy, LOL
OK, Marchel,
I just gotta ask... Holstein? Guernsey? Angus? Ayrshire? Jersey?
JUDITH, I love Tomball; it is truly the hometown with a heart! A friend in my women's group came up with that slogan many years ago when she worked for the chamber.
TAMMY, That is so sad that a neighbor would call animal control instead of the owner. It sounds like the neighbor in this case even knew who the horse belonged to.
ANDREW, Great to see you. When I grew up I showed sheep in 4-H and they made fairly good lawn mowers but were very DUMB!
ANDREA, Your picture of the cow is just priceless. I just mentioned that 4-H to Andrew but I remember sleeping in someones station wagon at the county fair and being woke up by a cow sticking their head in the window. Some things just always stick with you (lol).
SONDRA, I have a new camera that I carry in my purse but oh my is it complicated.
Hi Marchel, That's nice. Always good to have your camera with you, never know when a great blog will come your way! :)
PAIGE, Actually the city of Houston is the same. We don't have zoning in the Houston area which is why deed restrictions are so important here.
STEVE, I'm clueless on how to tell cows apart.
ANNA, It did make me feel good about the area we live in.
SHARON, The town was named after Thomas Ball. He was a state senator that was influential in getting the railroad to come through Tomball; which put it on the map.
JANE, I do expect that is why the cows get branded as to me they all look alike.
Hi Marchel,
Only in Texas! JK, that is a funny sign.
Lisa
That's too funny! I love the great state of Texas!
I've seen all kinds of crazy signs and things that happen in the country but your lost cow sign was a good one, especially across the dirt road was a pasture full. How do they know which one is theirs or not?
That's too funny BUT mighty neighborly to try to help someone find their lost cow! I ♥ Texas!
hahaha..... hahaha.... hahaha...... that is funny!! We have a lot of "found dog" signs, but I have never seen a "found cow " sign.... !
LYNDA, I would say that Tomball is a BREA place to live. You have to love Tomball!
WILLIAM, There are quite a few cows in the town of Tomball so a community pet policy may be a possiblity (lol).
MIKE, I have to be honest for me there are dairy cows and beef cows (lol). Now we also have bunches of longhorns but not on this street.
RICKI, I got a new small camera for Christmas that I always take with me. On one side it is a camera and on the other takes videos. It is so darn complicated though!!! I'm slowly getting the hang of it.
LISA, You are so right; only in Texas!
CHRISTOPHER, I'm with you! I have lived in three other states and Texas is my favorite!!
STEPHANIE, I'm not sure how they know that a cow belongs to them. To me they all look alike.
JONI, Tomball Is one of those mighy neighborly towns!!
SHEILA, This was my first found cow sign also!!
Moo-varleous! But I am not sure I am ready to find a cow wandering through my yard; neighborly folks yes. Cute post, Marchel.
Marchel: It figures ! You saw this "found cow" sign, took a picture of it, and now you're "milking it" for all it's worth ! < impish grin >
By the way... congratulations on hitting the 600,000 Point Level. Hooray for You ! I hope all is well with you and your family.
Marchel, it is truly posts like this that reminds us there are sooooo many good people out there. The media normally forgets to tell us about them! Thanks for sharing. Good tie in to Real Estate too, I might add!
Marchel--I have takne in many stray dogs and cats and found the owners, but I would not have a clue what to do with a cow!! This is too funny!!
Marchel that is too funny. Deed restriction can be a good thing; and I have read your previous blogs on the subject matter in Tomball TX.
Congrats! I see you just passed the 600,000 milestone.
