Happy 4th of July but no fireworks this year in Spring TX!!

Fireworks at Augusta Pines golf club 2010
Fireworks at Augusta Pines golf club 2010

The pictures above were taken at the Augusta Pines firework display last year. My slideshow will be the only fireworks we will be seeing in Harris County this year as all firework displays in Harris and Montgomery County have been cancelled due to our severe drought. We had a nice thunderstorm the other night but being about 17 inches low the ground just immediately soaked it up.

We have lived here since December 1996 and it is so strange not seeing the fireworks stands open. Usually they are doing a booming business but this is also the driest that it has been since we have lived here. Typically the entire day of the 4th I hear firecrackers going off but today it has been blissfully quiet. As much as we love our fireworks we love our Texas land more and I’m proud to see everyone going along with the fireworks ban. (Mind you there is a $500 fine being imposed if you do shoot a firework and that means any kind of firework.) As dry as everything is I think we all understand the importance of no fireworks this year.

On the other hand our dog Dundy does not like fireworks and is THRILLED about the ban (lol).
I wish you all a happy 4th of July.

I heard about the drought and the ban. It's a bummer because once a year, that's the only fireworks display I look forward to.

Sorry to hear you won't be having Fireworks!  It is very hot here but thankfully we've had rain - and lots of it!  Happy Fourth even with no fireworks!

Hi Marchel, I hope the rain will come for Spring Texas - and maybe a little lightening so that you will have "Nature's Fireworks"!  My dog hates both, fireworks and lightening, so she's happy for Dundy!

Happy 4th of July Marchel!

Hi Marchel! I hate that there are no fireworks too but better a ban than a fire! This drought is horrible!!

Your fireworks show is so pretty. I am sorry you cannot have them this year but it seems to be a good idea since your drought is so bad .  Happt 4th.

Marchel - My dog Molly will be wishing she lived in Spring TX this evening.  I hope you have a wonderful 4th of July even though it won't include fireworks.

Hi Marchel. Happy 4th of July and your slideshow  is beautiful.  I am not sure there will be fireworks here this evening for it is 7:45pm and we are having terrible thunderstorms and rain.  Happy for the rain.

They have been cancelled here too! That's okay! Too dangerous! Sending thanks to our armed forces past and present this Indendence Day!

Marchel:

Sorry you weren't able to have a fireworks show this year.  But with everything so dry it is understandable.  Hope your fourth was fun anyway.

LOREENA, It is eerie quiet here this evening but that is a good thing with the drought.  Usually I would have walked to Augusta Pines to see the firework display but there's always next year.

SHERRI, My husband and I were just commenting on how eerie quite it is.  We have not heard one firecracker all day.  Typically our dog would be hiding under my desk but tonight he gets a free night.

MARY, We had a wonderful light display a few nights ago.  We sat on our covered patio for the entire display (lol).

MAGGIE, I am so proud of our neighbors for adhering to the ban.  I have not heard one firecracker all day.  We have lived here almost 15 years and have never seen it so dry.

ALLEN, I do miss walking to the display but for this year this was a good call.

MICHELLE, Dundy had a busy day swimming and now he is just taking it easy.  Usually at this point he would be looking for a place to hide.

JUDITH, We had rain a few days ago but if you want to send it this way we could sure you use more.

JONI, I think most of this part of the state has canceled their displays.  You are correct freedom is not free we owe a debt of gratitude to our armed forces.  (I was proud that our son served but what a relief to have him at Texas A&M going in to his Junior year).

EVELYN, It was a quiet fourth and is eerie quiet right now.  I'm proud that our neighbors are all adhering to the ban though.

Marchel I heard the news this morning.   Here is hoping you will get some rain soon.

Your firework shouts are spectacular.

Marchel,  Happy Fourth to you (one day late)  we had limited displays here in Colorado as well.  We went to our sons home in Parker and there were fireworks all over the place. We have one dog that HATES the booms, and when we got home, he was not!!  We looked for him until 1am then figured he would come back.... when the coast was clear, he showed up at 5am.  He wished it was a quiet fourth :).

Marchel - I laid down to take a nap at 8:50 pm last evening, and didn't wake up until 2:30 am this morning.  I slept through the fireworks, even though their loud boom was only blocks away:-)

Marchel, I got back to late yesterday to comment on your blog.

I hope you had a great 4th of July, and enjoyed the fireworks.

Hey Marchel...we had a ban here also. Lots of fires going on.  They did however have a laser light show and flyovers at Busch Presidential Library. Somehow laser lights are no substitute for rockets!

Hi Marchel: I think a lot of places cut back this year.  Riverside County, California does not have Fireworks stands, nor does San Diego County!  One has to go to Orange County to get them, but I'm not sure if they had many this year.  My boys have outgronw them!

Marchel,

We had none in Tucson this year because of the drought and forest fires.  Now the rains have come, though!

Marchel, even though you didn't have the boom boom (fireworks), hope you had a great day with family and friends.
