Fireworks on the New Year is a Texas tradition and this year we have heard them going off since early in the evening. With our severe drought this summer there was no fireworks on the 4th; believe me people are making up for lost time this evening. (It helps that is is 70 degrees out at 10:00 at night.) I just heard on the news the fireworks stands are doing record sales! Our dog and cats will be happy when we finish ringing in this New Year! Our dog is honestly too big to be a lap dog but this evening he is a lap dog (lol).

Our Texas weather has been perfect for New Year's Eve this year! Happy 2012!
Happy New Year Marchel! Yes indeedy ... my little yorkie was terrorized by the artillary barrage of fireworks going on in my subdivision. I was kind of surprised the fire marshal allowed it (because of the drought) and as you say ... since 4th of July fireworks were cancelled ... FOR SURE folks made up for lost time last night. All the best in 2012. PS-- Is this just a Texas thing ... or do folks everywhere also shoot up fireworks from their yards??? It's been years since I was on the east coast --- but I don't remember that going on --- hmm.. maybe people will tell us.

How fun! We have fireworks all around but getting to them is just too scary anymore. So we watch them on TV. They light up the Space Needle for 8 minutes! Happy New Year!

Our exact words "firework stands are doing a bank up business". It boomed up until 12:30 and then there was silence. The fireworks were beautiful over Canyon Lake. Heard a few fire trucks go out, maybe for a few grass fires but hopefully that is all it was. Another year with tradition is complete.
Time to look forward to 2012, hope yous will be the best ever.

SHARON, It was a good year for fireworks. It was comfortable being in a sweater. Now my husband had on short sleeves but I am a wimp.
JUDITH, I know this happen in Louisiana also but we have also lived in Kansas, Colorado and North Carolina and they did not have fireworks New Years eve. We moved here 15 years ago Dec. 23rd from NC; we were amazed coming through Louisiana and seeing fireworks stands set up.

JO, All our unincorporated areas can have fireworks which is about half of Harris County. The only places that cannot are Houston proper and The Woodlands. This year people made up for not getting to shoot them on the 4th.

CARL & CEIL, I love Canyon lake and I'll bet it was beautiful seeing the fireworks. Our lake is so far down it will probably be years before we see fireworks on the lake again.
