Growing up in Kansas my first sign of Spring was when I would see the daffodils peeking through the winter foliage (often through a little snow). I love living in Spring TX but have missed seeing those daffodils. In Spring our winters are too mild for daffodil bulbs unless you want to plant them every year. (Mind you I don't miss the daffodils enough to move back to the cold north. I love it when I talk to my family in Colorado and we are barefoot and they are snowing.)
I have however found a way to get my spring daffodil fix in Spring TX. I picked up these daffodils at our new Trader Joe's. What a bargain 10 daffodils for $1.29. It's not quite the same as seeing them come up through the winter foliage but works for me!
I love our mild weather in Spring TX. For a few months in the summer it is a little steamy but to me the summer heat doesn't seem much different than my memories of summers in Kansas. If you are considering a place to move consider Spring TX.

I love them and that is a great price! I don't have any yet....they are late this year but my crocus are finally up and i am starting to see the daffy's around town!!! They yell "spring" to me when I see them!!
Hey you nailed it may not be the way you wanted it but they still are beautiful and add little bounce to the room!
Hi Deborah, I do miss those crocus also but again not enough to move to the cold north.
Hi David, We moved from Westminster. My parents are in Thornton and my sister is in Elizabeth so I still come back quite often. I try to miss the snow but it doesn't always seem to work that way.
Hi Marchel, great to see you here. I hope you are well. The daffodils are beautiful and am glad you chose to treat yourself. They do add that touch of spring. Be well!!
I have never been to Trader Joe's. I'll have to make it a point to visit one soon. Your flowers are lovely!
The store bought daffodils can still give you that cheery happiness with the yellow flowers Marchel. Spring, TX is a wonderful place.
Our early daffodils are done and the tulips and starting to come up. We only have a few daffodils, i think the varmints got the bulbs. :-(
Marchel, that is a great way to adapt! I don't blame you for not wanting to move back to the cold. I am thinking that we should have looked harder at moving to a warmer climate!
Marchel:
Beautiful picture. Hope you are having a wonderful week.
I love daffodils too. If you put the bulbs in the fridge they will bloom after you plant them. Of course you have to dig them up and save them after all the blooming is done. I think that is how my father in law use to do plant them. Its been a while but they are beautiful.
