Spring, Texas - "Let me tell you why I love living here!" (LOCALISM FEATURED)

I love living in Spring TX We have lived in the Spring Texas area for 11 years and we LOVE living here. I have to be honest we had reservations about moving here. My husband's job transferred us out of Denver and Houston was one of our options but we wanted no part of Houston. In our mind it was a big dirty city with lots of oil refineries. Instead we went to North Carolina which is a beautiful state but far away from all our friends and family who were in Kansas, Colorado and Texas. 2 ½ years later we were transferred again. This time we bit the dust and came to the Houston area. God knew what he was doing because I don't know that we would have been as happy here had we not traveled so far from family to begin with. We love living in Spring! We have a Spring mailing but are very close to Tomball, The Woodlands and Magnolia.

I think one of the things I love most about the Spring area are the friendly people. Even though Houston is one of the Spring TX is a friendly citylargest cities in the United States the communities still have a sense of a small community. I go to the grocery store, post office, the mall and see people that I know from my Spring/Tomball area and everyone is so friendly. I think friendly and Texas just goes hand in hand. It is nothing for people to wave as they go by. I have a friend who moved here and she said to begin with she kept looking over her shoulder to see who they were waving at.

The other thing that I love is the foliage. I had no idea it was such a pretty area. I love the mixture of trees and wide open spaces. North Carolina was beautiful but growing up in the plains of Kansas I felt a little claustrophobic with all the trees. The beauty of this area is that you still have all the trees but you also have the plains. We have towering pine trees, oak trees, sweet gums, dogwoods and all kinds of native bushes. It stays green here almost all year. The leaves come off the trees in December and on Valentines Day it is already time to prune the crepe myrtles because the leaves are getting ready to come back on. We have plants that grow in the ground that I thought were only house plants, split leaf philodendron and ferns to name a few. I just had no idea how pretty the area is, it is almost subtropical.

I love the foliage in Spring TXI heard a radio commentator once say we have two seasons here summer and January. That is really not far from the truth. I have to admit it gets a little steamy here in the summer time but air conditioning is a way of life. Personally I find that I can stay cool easier in the summer time than I used to try and stay warm up north in the winter. We rarely have a day over 100 degrees but it does almost become a broken record in July and August of 95 degrees, 95 degrees, 95 degrees and we do have high humidity. The good news on that is that it keeps our skin soft.

I couldn't mention all the things I love without mentioning the school districts. We moved here when our children were in 5th and 9th grade. Since that time they both graduated out of the Klein school district. They were well prepared for college. Our daughter went on to get a degree from the University of North Texas in Communication Design. Our son decided to join the Army as an Intelligence Analyst. He had that option because he scored so high on the military test. I think all the Spring TX is a great place to find an affordable homeschool districts around here must be as good because whether my clients live in Conroe ISD, Spring ISD, Tomball ISD or Magnolia ISD they all want to stay in the same district because they are so happy with the schools.

Missy brought up another reason that I love Spring in the comments. I’m surprised that I forgot to mention housing affordability when I wrote this post but I am rectifying that right now. In Spring we were able to buy a new home with more square footage than the houses we left in North Carolina and Colorado; plus the homes we left were built in 1960 and 1979. Additionally our houses are pretty I love the wide variety of architecture you find in our area. Most homes are mainly brick with either masonery or hardy plank along the back. If you aren’t familiar with hardy plank it is cement board and works great in our area with our pest problems. The home we had built in 1996 was one of the first homes to have Hardy Plank but it is now the common siding that is used.

Wonderful post of Spring, TX Marchel.  I can't believe how green it is there, much greener than here in Colorado.  I think it goes such a long way when you live in a city where people actually know you and people wave!  I like the photos you included in your post, you always have great photos!

PATRICIA, When I come back to visit my family in Colorado I'm always surprised at how brown it seems.  It does have a beauty of its own though as I still love Colorado.  It is just apples and oranges.  I always found Colorado to be friendly also.

CHERI, I was born and raised in Kansas.  It was very flat and not nearly as many trees.  I love the foliage here.  I could not be happier living here.

Marianne:  I live in Fort Worth, Texas... about three hours north of Spring.  I think if I were going to move... it would ALSO be to Spring, Texas.  And... I would beg ask Marchel to be my Realtor.  She knows Spring, Texas better than anyone I have seen since I have been on Active Rain.

Posted by Fort Worth Real Estate - - - Karen Anne Stone (New Home Hunters of Fort Worth and Tarrant County) about 3 years ago

MARIANNE, People are amazed when I tell them that I would not go back to Colorado as I LOVE Spring but I love not dealing with the elements.  The last house we bought in Westminster faced north (we of course bought in the summer) and that did it for me.  It gets a bit steamy here in the summer but it is a lot easier to shed clothes than having to put them on as far as I'm concerned.  Then I of course love Spring for all the other reasons that I mentioned.

KAREN ANNE, Thanks so much for your kind words!!

It is beautiful.  I grew up there.  I just can't imagine fighting that much traffic and humidity selling real estate.  Best of luck...I'll try to send you referrals and keep us in mind in Red Raider land...dry and dusty West Texas....Spring/Woodlands area is beautiful and I do miss the scenery, golf courses, trees, etc.

Posted by Jeff and Lisa Sellers (The Sellers Realty Lubbock,TX) about 3 years ago

Marchel, I would think that a little humidity would be refreshing...good for the skin! I'm so ready to leave here...LOL

Posted by Marianne Snygg, ABR, ASP, GRI, SFR (ERA Herman Group Real Estate) about 3 years ago

JEFF & LISA, I grew up in Wichita Kansas so I'm thinking your terrain is probably similar.  My Uncle lived in the Dallas area when I was growing up and I thought that was what all of Texas was.  WOW was I wrong inthat we have EVERYTHING!!  I had no idea that this area was so pretty.  I knew I wanted to live in an area that had trees but North Caronlina was almost overkill for the trees when you are originally from Kansas.  I could not see anything for the trees.  The beauty of our area is that we have the trees but also the wide open spaces that I am use to.

Our traffic is getting bad but for the most part I'm out and about in the middle of the day so miss most of it.  I rarely drive the freeways, partly because I have no freeways close to where I live.  One of my daughter's friends years ago called me the Queen of the back roads. Now that I have a GPS I'm even finding more back roads although that area your sister lives in is not on the GPS yet and I'm always cutting that way so it tells me "recalculating" the whole time.

Posted by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro (Results Realty) about 3 years ago

MARIANNE, Actually the humidity is something that I love about our area.  When we lived in Colorado my skin was so dry I felt like an Alligator.  I also have dry eyes and my eyes would often water all night when we lived there.  With the humidity I have very little problems with my dry eyes which is wonderful.  You wouldn't think dry eyes would cause your eyes to water but that's what happens.

Posted by Marchel Peterson Spring TX Real Estate E-Pro (Results Realty) about 3 years ago

Marchel, My husband just got me a GPS for my birthday, which isn't until December, but he gave it to me early and I love it. I used it the first time on Monday to show houses and it was sooooo nice. I now wonder how I lived without it. I think of all the trees I will save not printing Yahoo maps anymore and that's a bonus.

Posted by Cheri' Smith, Realtor Prudential Gary Greene (Prudential Gary Greene, Cypress TX) about 3 years ago

Marchel, I have the dry eyes problem. I know they water because they are dry...silly. And yes, I've got the alligator thing going on. Looks like I need to plan a vacation in your neck-of-the-woods.

Posted by Marianne Snygg, ABR, ASP, GRI, SFR (ERA Herman Group Real Estate) about 3 years ago

Cheri,

I have had my GPS since July. But, it doesn't map so many of the roads in my area that I leave it at home.

I think I will drag it out again and play around with it some more. I hear only good things.

Posted by Teller, Park and El Paso County Colorado Sabrina Kelley Pikes Peak Region Realtor (ERA The Herman Group) about 3 years ago

Marchel: You certainly did a fine job promoting your area and the love you have for your area. Ceil and I came through Spring awhile back and I know exactly what you mean. Even when we stopped to get directions folks were nice and took time to explain landmarks to look for so we didn't make any wrong turns. (Yes, the GPS went bonkers).  Folks are just nice in all areas of Texas and it is a wonderful place to live.

Congratulations on the pretty gold star.
